Welcome to POMS Hong Kong
The POMS Hong Kong Chapter was set up in March 2009, with an objective to encourage the exchange of ideas, experiences, and knowledge among scholars and professionals in Hong Kong in the field of Production and Operations Management, and foster the integration between Hong Kong and the international POM community. It runs an annual conference every winter.
The POMS-HK Chapter has evolved into a platform for scholars in OM as well as in general areas of OR (e.g., Financial Engineering, Optimization, Applied Probability, Business Analytics, etc) to share ideas. Thus, we would like to broaden the scope of the Chapter and welcome all the colleagues in OR/OM in HK to become a member. There is no membership fee to join the Chapter. Professor George Shanthikumar, Purdue University
In this talk we will survey the different approaches developed for data driven static and dynamic decision making in operations management. Within the context of static decision problems, we will discuss, Sample Average Approximation (SAA), Retrospective Optimization (RetrO), Robust Optimization (RobO), Adversarial Optimization (AdvO), Smart Predict then Optimize (SP+O), and Operational Data Analytics (ODA). We will discuss the relationship and relative advantages of the different approaches. For dynamic decision problems, we will survey the different Multiarmed Bandit (MAB), Reinforcement Learning (RL) and End-to-End integration (E2E) Approaches. We will discuss how Machine Learning (ML) algorithms such as Random Forest (RF), AdaBoost, Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) are integrated into providing prescriptive solution to OM problems. *Based on joint work with Qi Annabelle Feng
